For Cleaning, a Light Touch is Key!

Cleaning Wood Surfaces

We recommend that you clean your furniture with a damp cloth and a mild soap, such as dish soap diluted with water. Be sure to wipe the surface completely dry immediately after cleaning.

Tip: to remove grease stains, use a mixture of one part water and one part vinegar.

Cleaning Glass and Porcelain Tops

Our experts recommend using cleaning products designed for glass, such as Windex® or Bon Ami®, for your glass or porcelain tabletop. Note that the most effective product may vary depending on the dirt, residue or stain type. We therefore suggest you test different products to see which best suits your needs.

Cleaning Fabrics

Canadel offers a wide range of options, from leather and velvet to various fabrics made from different materials. Cleaning methods, therefore, vary depending on the selected fabric. To learn more about the care of your fabric, look underneath your product for a label with a cleaning code and specific recommendations.

If there is no label underneath your furniture, check your invoice for the fabric code or contact your retailer, who will be able to provide it. You can also refer to this Chart for further information.

General Recommendations:

  • Before thoroughly cleaning the fabric on your chairs, benches or stools, always do a preliminary test in a small, inconspicuous area.
  • After a spill, act quickly to remove stains.
  • Always start by blotting the spill and avoid rubbing.
  • Clean the stain first, then the entire surface quickly to avoid rings.
  • For stubborn stains, consider contacting a professional cleaning company.

A Few Valuable Tips

  • Solid wood is very sensitive to temperature and humidity variations because it is a living material. To protect your furniture, maintain a constant humidity level, ideally between 30% and 50%. If these conditions are not met, your furniture could crack and warp. Finishes may also be affected.
  • Store extension leaves as close as possible to the table to maintain the same humidity level. Therefore, storing them in an upstairs closet is better than in a damp basement.
  • Avoid placing your furniture too close to a radiator, hot air vent or wood-burning stove.
  • Don’t use wax or abrasive products, as these can damage the finish of your furniture. Products containing alcohol or ammonia should also be avoided.
  • Never place a hot object directly on your wood furniture; this can cause heat stains.
    • If your furniture has a white heat stain, Canadel has a tip to remove it. Put a dry towel in the dryer until warm or hot. Remove and place quickly over the stain, using small circular movements. This should help remove the stain. Please note that Canadel cannot be held responsible if this tip was done incorrectly and has caused further damage to your furniture.
  • Never leave liquid directly on the wood, as it could damage your furniture. The wood could crack and warp.
    • In the event of water infiltration, quickly put raw rice on the surface. This tip, used in a timely manner, can help limit infiltration damage.
  • To protect the finish of your furniture, avoid daily exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Never use a “magic eraser” cleaning pad or abrasive sponge on wood.
  • Avoid sliding objects across the table. Friction can scratch and damage the surface.
  • Use coasters, placemats or a tablecloth on your table every time you use it to avoid scratches.
    • If your tabletop has a few scratches, our experts recommend using an oil of natural origin for wood (transparent or 00-natural) to help erase them.
  • A butcher’s block should be treated with food-grade mineral oil on a regular basis.
  • All skids or pads can wear and sometimes detach from chair legs. Worn or missing pads can quickly damage your floor and should be checked regularly.

These handy tips will help preserve the beauty of your furniture and keep it as good as new for years to come. Any questions? Share them with us in the comments! We’ll be happy to answer you.

      Hello Sanya,

Thank you for contacting Canadel. We don’t recommend the use of this heat resistant table cloth as our tables are really sensitive to heat and it could make heat marks.

I purchased a 48” round black Canadel table. The top looks as if it has cloudy smudges all over since delivery. I have cleaned and cleaned with a warm, wet cloth. The grain is only visible on a couple of areas of the table. It is horrible.

    I want a refund.

Also, I sat a beautiful indoor clay pot in the center of table and the next day the pot had left a cloudy perfect circle. No flowers or water were in the pot. The pot was completely dry. This table has issues.

We bought a dining table and keep it covered most of the time with a table cloth. But even with it covered, we noticed that when we remove the cloth we still feel dust on the table. What or how do you recommend for dusting the table so that we do not put any scratches on it? Thank you.

I have a Canale kitchen table with scratches, I know you recommend ‘If your tabletop has a few scratches, our experts recommend using an oil of natural origin for wood (transparent or 00-natural) to help erase them.”

Can you provide some names of products that would fit this recommendation? Some examples of what to buy here in the US

  • Robert McCabe says:

We bought a table and 4 chairs. The fabric on the chairs is starting to have waves/wrinkles in it. We have only had the chairs for about 7 months. Anything we can do to address this.

    • Canadel says:

      Hello Robert,

We invite you to send us an email at information@canadel.ca, including a photo of the white label underneath one of your chairs, as well as pictures of the chairs and fabric. Our team will be happy to assist you.

      Best regards,

  • Steven Gabardi says:

Can you use any protectant on 9K Velvet fabric, like scotchguard?

    • Canadel says:

      Hello Steven,

Thank you for contacting us. We do not recommend using a stain guard product because if not applied correctly it can change the look and texture of your chair’s fabric. Also, the wood has to be really well protected as it can damage its finish. For these reasons, the application is at your own risk and there is no warranty on our side that covers the chairs once the product is applied.

I hope this information is useful to you. Please contact us if you have further questions. We will be happy to help you.

      Have a great day.

We recently purchased (delivered about 2 months ago) dinning table with 6 chairs. This dinning table is for all our meals. I would like to know how can I protect the wooden surface. I am using the table mats and trivets all the time. But I am still concerned that the wooden finish will not last longer. When I read the information on how to care for the table, it indicated glass top shouldn’t be
used. But how about Plexiglass. Would that damage the wooden surface? Thanks.

    • Canadel says:

Thank you very much for reaching out to us and for choosing our dining table for your everyday meals. We’re delighted to hear that you are taking such good care of it by using table mats and trivets — these are indeed excellent habits and go a long way in preserving the wood surface.

Following a review with our quality team, we do not recommend using Plexiglass on the tabletop. Even though it may seem protective, Plexiglass can trap heat and moisture between the surface and the wood, which over time may affect the finish and the natural behavior of the wood.

The best way to protect your table is to continue using placemats, trivets for hot items, and to clean the surface gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth, followed by drying it right away. Avoid harsh cleaners or prolonged exposure to heat, liquids, or direct sunlight.

Thank you again for your trust and for taking such thoughtful care of your furniture.

  • Annette says:

Do you sell pads for your dining room tables? If not, do you have a recommended company to use?

    • Canadel says:

      Thank you for your message.

We do not sell protective pads for our dining room tables. Additionally, we do not have any affiliation with or specific recommendations for third-party companies that offer table pads.

That said, if you choose to use a table pad, we suggest selecting a high-quality option that is breathable, properly sized, and suitable for use on wooden surfaces, to avoid trapping moisture or heat.

      Kind regards,

  • Linda says:

Hi, my dining table is 5 years old and I’ve always clean it the damp cloth or a bit of dawn soap. Over the years it’s lost its beautiful shine. Can I use the same oil that I put in my cutting boards? Suggestions?
    Thanks

    • Canadel says:

Thank you for reaching out and for taking such good care of your dining table over the years.

For maintenance and to help revive the wood’s natural beauty, we recommend using a natural oil specifically designed for wooden furniture. Our quality team suggests Bio-Supra, which is well suited for this purpose and helps nourish the wood while enhancing its appearance.

We do not recommend using the same oil intended for cutting boards, as those products are formulated for food-contact surfaces and may not provide the appropriate protection or finish for furniture.

Before applying any oil, we suggest testing it on a small, inconspicuous area first. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for best results.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us (information@canadel.ca) — we’ll be happy to assist.

      Kind regards,
